SUMMARY:PTed Talk | Finding a Sense of Belonging in Physical Therapy Education & Practice: A Discussion of Recent Research
DESCRIPTION:As clinicians or educators\, physical therapists (PTs) strive to foster a sense of belonging for ourselves\, our clients and our students. How do we best accomplish this support for diversity and inclusion in educational and practice settings and what are current leadership strategies that can help facilitate this? There is a growing body of research on this topic providing guidance and answers to these and many more questions. Join us as we review and discuss the recently published article\, “The Role of Identity in Physical Therapy Education and Practice in the Pacific Northwest\,” as well as related literature on this subject. In this journal-club-style presentation\, attendees will hear from the authors on their methods and findings and participate in small group discussions following a review of current research related to the experience of underrepresented physical therapy students and professionals. Additionally presenters will discuss techniques and resources for creating more inclusive PT practice settings and classrooms.
